Book Review: The Rumor

by Elin Hilderbrand

Madeline King and Grace Pancik are best friends and the envy of Nantucket for their perfect marriages, their beautiful kids, their Sunday night double dates with their devoted husbands. But this summer, something's changed, and if there's anything Nantucket likes better than cocktails on the beach at sunset, it's a good rumor.
And rumor has it...
...that Madeline, a novelist, is battling writer's block, with a deadline looming, bills piling up, and blank pages driving her to desperation--and a desperately bad decision;
...that Grace, hard at work to transform her backyard into a garden paradise, has been collaborating a bit more closely that necessary with her ruggedly handsome landscape architect;
...that Grace's husband, successful island real estate developer "Fast Eddie" Pancik, has embarked on quite an unusual side project;
...that the storybook romance between Madeline's son, Brick, and Grace's daughter Allegra is on the rocks, heading for disaster.
As the gossip escalates, and they face the possible loss of the happy lives they've worked so hard to create, Grace and Madeline try mightily to set the record straight--but the truth might be even worse than rumor has it.

I read this book in the time it took me to fly to Lake Tahoe and back! It was a great and easy read. Just the kind I like to read on a plane. I am not a fan of books about cheating but I had to finish to read about the other stories that were going on in the book. Hilderbrand is a great author and I would love to read more of her book as long as they don't involve a cheating storyline. She really is a great author to read!

At the end of April, I took a little weekend trip to celebrate my friend Jaclyn's birthday. We spent the weekend with some college friends in Lake Tahoe celebrating her 30th birthday.

On Friday, Emily and I flew to Lake Tahoe. It was a early and long travel day (I have a fresh knee injury and she is pregnant) but we made the most of it. We met two other friends at the airport and drove to meet the other girls at Lake Tahoe. We spent the rest of the afternoon taking pictures at scenic locations. After we drove around the majority of the lake, we did a little shopping and had pizza at a really great place! We then finally settled in to our rental home. Emily and I had almost been awake for a full day. But it was great to spend time with our friends.

Sic 'Em Bears!

The next day we had a great breakfast at a quaint local joint and it was delicious! After we ate, we got on a large paddle boat and took a tour of Lake Tahoe. It was a fun way to see the beautiful area.

We then took some time to rest and play games before heading out to a fancy dinner to celebrate the birthday girl. We ate at the top of a casino so after dinner some of the girls did a bit of gambling.

The last day was a breakfast in with the girls and then another long day of traveling. My poor ankle was the size of a baseball at the end of all the traveling, on account of my injury.

Love Lake Tahoe and can't wait to make another trip to go back and visit.
